How the 50 KB target is reached
- The image is decoded and its real dimensions are read from the header.
- The encoder tries a bounded series of quality steps, measuring the exact byte size each time.
- If quality alone is not enough, dimensions are reduced in 15% steps — never below a usable size.
- The smallest attempt at or under 50 KB is kept; if none qualifies, the closest attempt is shown as such.
Practical notes
- Start from the largest original you have. Compressing an already-compressed file loses quality twice.
- For documents and screenshots, PNG at reduced dimensions often looks better than a heavily compressed JPEG.
- Metadata (including GPS) is removed by re-encoding. Orientation is applied first.
- Files up to 25 MB and 40 megapixels are accepted; larger ones are rejected with a clear message.
