Convert JPG to PNG

Drop a JPEG and get a real PNG: same pixels, lossless encoding, verified output. Everything runs in this tab.

Your files are processed in this browser tab. Nothing is uploaded, stored or logged.

When PNG is the right target

For photographs that will be uploaded once, keeping JPEG and compressing it is usually smaller. Use the image compressor for that.

JPG to PNG questions

Does converting to PNG restore lost quality?

No. JPEG compression is lossy and irreversible. Converting to PNG keeps the current pixels exactly, but it cannot bring back detail that was discarded when the photo was saved as JPEG.

Why is the PNG larger than the JPG?

PNG is lossless, so it stores every pixel without throwing away detail. Photos usually become several times larger. PNG is the better choice for screenshots, logos and images with sharp edges or transparency.

Is the file really a PNG?

Yes. The tool re-encodes the pixels and then checks the produced bytes for the PNG signature before offering the download. Renaming a file is never used as a conversion.

What about EXIF and orientation?

Orientation is applied to the pixels before encoding. EXIF metadata such as camera model and GPS location is not carried into the PNG.
